About

The European Network of Research Ethics Committees (EUREC) shapes the future of ethical review and research across Europe, bringing together research ethics committees (RECs).

EUREC fosters a culture of researchers who prioritise ethical considerations, advancing responsible and impactful research. Through collaboration and knowledge exchange, EUREC is shaping a future where research across diverse disciplines is conducted with integrity and consideration for ethical standards.

Principal objectives:

  • to foster a sustainable infrastructure for European RECs that promotes exchange and international cooperation
  • to gather information on RECs in Europe, building a foundation for mutual exchange
  • to collect and evaluate training materials for REC members, enhancing the quality of review
  • to conduct capacity building that facilitates the development of national REC networks
  • to identify emerging ethical issues and develop common solutions for challenges posed by new technologies and scientific methodologies
  • to promote science and research in the realm of bioethics and medical ethics
  • to assist in the harmonisation of the multidisciplinary ethical reviews of medical research involving human participants as well as the materials or data derived from such research
  • to support the quality of biomedical research at the European level
